100 Men 100 Boys
The 100 Men 100 Boys program is focused on creating and sustaining mentoring relationships with the unmatched boys of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Agency. With these young boys lacking those one-to-one mentorships, the 100 Men 100 Boys program seeks to provide stability, a positive influence and the extra guidance where needed to maximize the potential of these youth.
Key Program Components:
· Academic Performance
· Financial Literacy
· Physical and Emotional Well-Being
· Civic Engagement
The program addresses the needs of boys ages 6 through 17 years of age. Facilitators and mentors meet on a weekly basis with the youth to participate in various workshops, trips and community projects.
It’s A “BIG” Deal
The program mentors are a very diverse group of Men all bringing their own knowledge, experiences and influence to the youth. Some of the mentorship pieces include:
· Developing Personal Interest
· Developing Problem Solving and Leadership Skills
· Time Management
· Cultural Competency
Though this program provides mentorship to youth on a group level, the main goal is to provide the boys with those one-to-one relationships. With that, a mentor from within the 100 Men 100 Boys program can also provide one-to-one community based mentorship to a little, conducted outside of the program. The mentors can also target a specific youth within the program to specifically pair with during the sessions.
Who We Are
The 100 Men 100 Boys Program began as a partnership with the Urban League of Flint under the leadership of former executive director, Mr. Melvyn Brannon, in 1994. Today, the program still remains a strong support for boys waiting to be match to a mentor.
