Description: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a partnering organization, empowers youth to achieve academic success by practicing academic excellence. This event is hosted by representatives of the sorority who conduct grade appropriate, educational workshops for our Littles. Enjoy a day on the golf course while supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters mission of creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise youth. Golf games and competitions will be offered during the event, along with a silent auction and drawing for The BIG Raffle.* The event will host an AM flight with a 9:00am shotgun start, and breakfast. The event is a collaborative effort in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Motherly Intercession and InvolvedDad, all funded by Flint ReCAST. The Block Party will serve as Big Brothers Big Sisters’ annual Summer Learning Day and InvolvedDad’s 1st annual Father-que. The event aims to celebrate fathers and those who are serving as male role models to the young men and boys in our community. Additionally, the Block Party will support building mindful practices and summertime learning through family engagement. Community organizations have been invited to provide information about services offered. There will be food, entertainment, bounce houses, foam party and giveaways offered to attendees. All fathers and male role models will be eligible to win a gas grill to be raffled away during the event.

The Gary Haggart Bowl for Kids’ Sake is our largest annual fundraiser. The event provides a chance for all ages and bowling abilities to support mentoring needs and opportunities for children in our community. Corporate sponsors and pledges collected by participants provide Big Brothers Big Sisters with a significant portion of revenue to support services and programs. For many community members, Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a tradition that brings together fellowship, fun and the focus on behalf of the children.

To commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and National Mentoring Awareness Month, this event engages community members to incorporate mentoring into their lives by volunteering to mentor a youth from Big Brothers Big Sisters. The event features Mr. James Avery as our Master of Ceremony and Mr. Shon Hart will provide the keynote.
